The River Dee is broad at high tide and meanders past Flint Castle. Reconstruction images and maps show an outer ward and a protected inner bailey, separated by moats. Water access allows ships to reach the castle. The round corner tower is detached from the inner ward and serves as a keep beside the entrance. Its position combines a final stronghold with fire over the approach.
