Crew recollections describe extra light antiaircraft weapons

Accounts from former Fletcher crew members and their families describe crews acquiring extra light antiaircraft weapons when they could. The comparison with Royal Navy practice suggests a similar willingness to obtain additional weapons. Machine guns and whatever other light AA became available could supplement the nominal outfit. The issue of seven 20 mm guns therefore need not describe every ship's equipment at every moment. These recollections describe local practice without establishing a replacement equipment total for the class.
