Chapter · 18:48-22:33

Five hardpoints built for heavy ordnance

A walk through the A-6's weapons display shows how five strong stations supported conventional bombing, rockets, guided weapons, self-defence, extended range, and tanker support.

Notes

The weapons display surrounds the aircraft with 250-, 500-, 1,000-, and 2,000-pound bombs, rocket launchers, practice stores, and shapes representing napalm or nuclear loads. Bullpup air-to-ground missiles and Sidewinders show that the load plan extended beyond unguided bombing. Four external fuel tanks are mounted on the displayed aircraft, while a D-704 buddy-refuelling store demonstrates how the Intruder could support other aircraft as a tanker. The display uses some artistic licence, including 30 500-pound bombs where the stated load was 28. Five high-capacity stations let one attack airframe shift between massed strike, guided attack, self-defence, extended range, and refuelling.
