Five Flower batches produced 120 wartime escorts

Successive minesweeping and anti-submarine batches gave Britain and France 120 Flower-family sloops, about 100 of which survived the war and immediate aftermath.

Notes

The Royal Navy ordered 24 Acacia-, 12 Azalea-, and 36 Arabis-class sloops primarily as fleet minesweepers, with eight additional Arabis ships built for France. The later Aubretia and Anchusa batches added 40 anti-submarine vessels that first supported Q-ship tactics and then became regular convoy escorts. Britain lost 17 of its 112 ships and France one of eight during the war, while two more British vessels were mined in the Baltic in July 1919. The resulting total of about 100 survivors shows both the industrial scale of the program and the durable reserve of small hulls available after the armistice.
