Why the Fishguard-to-Bristol route was operationally implausible

Carregwastad's small beach and difficult exit led toward a long march across Wales and an unresolved Severn crossing.

Notes

The French landed at the small beach below Carregwastad Point rather than in Fishguard harbor. The narrow shore and tight exit made moving men, guns, and supplies inland difficult. From there, the march toward Bristol still faced rugged country and the Severn crossing. Even the approximate straight-line distance was around 108 miles, before allowing for the actual route over the terrain. Poor French geographical information compounded a plan that required a small force to march across Wales in February.
