Fish oil was useful as an industrial lubricant, so destroying the Lofoten supplies could damage the German war economy. Royal Navy destroyers returned with fish, fishermen, fishing boats, and selected merchant ships. Some naval landing parties wanted to capture refrigerated ships, but Tribal-class destroyers destroyed them because that plan had not been communicated. The lost prizes show the coordination limits inside an otherwise successful raid. Claymore mixed industrial sabotage with the seizure of local vessels and supplies.
