A role-based scheme for fictional cruiser names

One proposed scheme calls long-distance patrol and exploration ships cruisers, with light, heavy, and battlecruiser variants reflecting their size. Frigates could serve as escorts and destroyers as fast fleet attack ships. Battleships would then have a fleet role without the same independent cruising duties. This remains an author's choice for a fictional navy.
