Heligoland Bight appears here from the perspective of a scout cruiser embedded with destroyer flotillas in fog and short visibility. The British operation sent the Harwich Force against German patrols, with submarines, light cruisers, and battlecruisers available in support. When Stettin intervened against the British destroyers, Fearless hit the German light cruiser within about five minutes and knocked out one of her guns. The destroyers were carrying out their original torpedo-boat-destroying mission, and Fearless was fiercely protective of them. Regular and reserve sailors needed considerable skill to hit manoeuvring ships with unstabilized guns during a confused close-range fight.
