Pairing fast carriers with capital ships

A fast carrier paired with suitable fast capital ships could form a flexible and unusually powerful combat force.

Notes

Force H shows how a fast carrier and fast capital ships could form an unusually effective combat group. Aircraft supplied reconnaissance and striking reach, while the gunships added surface power, provided both could maintain the same speed. Renown's operations with Ark Royal illustrate the pairing. Later in the Second World War, Renown was one of the few surviving Allied capital ships able to make the roughly 30 knots such a group required.
