No major film has focused on Farragut's life, despite the striking image of the admiral climbing into Hartford's rigging amid smoke and gunfire. His name nevertheless persists in American culture, including repeated use in Star Trek and appearances in stories centered on other subjects. Cultural recognition can survive without a popular narrative that explains why the historical figure mattered.
