Preserving Falklands War ships required more than public advocacy

Campaigns sought to preserve carriers, landing craft, and other Falklands War material, but only scattered aircraft and smaller artefacts survived without sustained government backing.

Notes

Alex Clarke recalls arguing for Invincible-class carriers and other Falklands War material to be preserved. Some Sea Harriers and smaller objects survive, and a landing craft still offered a possible preservation opportunity. Those fragments do not substitute for retaining the large ships that carried and supported the campaign. Enthusiasm cannot preserve a major vessel unless government or another durable owner accepts its continuing cost.
