Why Falklands units brought different habits

The Welsh Guards discussion contrasts expeditionary training with preparation for NATO's Central Front.

Notes

Every unit's Falklands decisions need to be judged against the preparation it received. Training for mass combat against the Soviet Union in Germany encouraged different assumptions about assets, orders, and tempo from expeditionary warfare. Northern-flank operations in Norway required another set of habits, and the Falklands imposed a third. Limited budgets prevented every formation from mastering every style of war, so fair criticism must account for the missions a unit had actually trained to fight.
