Why satcom could not precisely reveal the Falklands fleet

Argentina could exploit detectable long-range radio, but intercepting narrow satellite links required access near an endpoint and could not locate the Royal Navy to inch-level precision.

Notes

Argentine ground stations could not precisely track the Royal Navy through its satellite communications. Tracking a satellite's orbit is much easier than placing a receiver inside the narrow path of a point-to-point link. Long-range radio could reveal useful position information, but satellite interception required proximity to an endpoint and capabilities Argentina did not possess in 1982. Blinding satellites can therefore force an opponent onto lower-bandwidth radio that is easier to detect.
