Falklands award deadlines disadvantaged naval nominations

Royal Navy units still returning from operations could not assemble Victoria Cross submissions on the same schedule as the Army.

Notes

The Army could assemble its recommendations while Royal Navy ships and witnesses were still returning from the South Atlantic. The Ministry of Defence then applied a common submission deadline that the dispersed naval force could not meet on the same timetable. The service therefore lacked time to collect testimony and file nominations before the cutoff. The absence of a naval Victoria Cross is presented as an administrative and evidentiary problem, rather than evidence that the campaign offered no comparable acts of courage.
