Why the 1982 landing casualty account is disputed

Royal Marine weapons and ammunition expenditure are used to challenge accounts of a nearly bloodless Argentine landing, although no settled casualty total emerges.

Notes

Ricky Phillips's work on the landing is cited alongside the difficulty of assigning Argentine deaths to particular actions. Dr. Clarke questions the casualty account using the Marines' weapons and reported ammunition expenditure, including roughly 6,500 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. SLRs and GPMGs supplemented Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles and M72 LAW weapons, while the Falkland Islands Defence Force had older small arms and machine guns. Ammunition expenditure alone does not supply a confirmed casualty total, and no settled alternative total is established here. Claims about amphibious vehicles burning on the beach remain part of the contested interpretation.
