The missing forward vice admiral in the Falklands

A vice admiral and HMS Bristol arrived only for the final phase, leaving much of the campaign directed at distance from Northwood.

Notes

The argument is that a senior commander should have deployed south earlier in HMS Bristol. Instead, the vice admiral arrived when the fighting was largely over and handled the follow-on and clearing tasks. During the main campaign, senior direction from Northwood created friction for commanders in theatre. An empowered operational commander near the task force could respond more directly than headquarters oversight from Britain.
