The Falklands exclusion zone favored the dominant navy

The 200-nautical-mile exclusion zone clarified the combat area while preserving uncertainty about where the Royal Navy operated.

Notes

Unlike Ukraine, the Falklands were separated from both belligerents’ principal bases, making expeditionary sea power decisive. The declared exclusion zone reduced civilian traffic and simplified identification, but it did not confine the Royal Navy to a predictable location. That uncertainty gave the stronger fleet freedom to interdict movement and approach from different parts of a roughly 400-mile-wide battlespace. A geographic boundary therefore supported sea control without becoming a boundary on British maneuver.
