The Fairmile B was an adaptable platform. Steel mounting points along the hull let crews exchange equipment and convert the vessel among motor-launch, torpedo-boat, and depth-charge roles in roughly 48 hours with a crane. The arrangement is compared with the modern StanFlex system because the same basic hull could receive mission-specific equipment. About a dozen Type A boats were built, while the Type B total approached 1,400 working vessels. Standardization and production volume became part of the British answer.

Fairmile B modularity turns one hull into several roles
Fairmile B boats anticipated the modern StanFlex idea: hull attachment points let crews swap weapons and equipment quickly, allowing a large production run to serve several coastal roles.
