Experience could not replace ships at Singapore

The Royal Navy carried Aerial's evacuation experience forward, but Singapore shows that institutional knowledge could not compensate for missing ships and competing theatres.

Notes

Aerial belonged to a sequence of Royal Navy withdrawals running from Norway and Dunkirk through Greece and Crete. Repeated operations gave officers and crews experience in assembling shipping, coordinating embarkation, and working under attack. Singapore exposed the limit of that experience because two years of war had consumed ships and tied remaining forces to existing theatres. Knowing how to conduct an evacuation could not supply the force structure and time required to execute one at scale.
