The cruiser patrolled during the Spanish Civil War and bombarded Barcelona, an action associated here with 18 deaths. In the Second World War she fought at Punta Stilo and in the Harpoon and Pedestal convoy operations. Her six-inch gunfire probably inflicted most of the damage that slowed HMS Bedouin enough for a torpedo bomber to finish the destroyer. A Liberator raid later damaged Eugenio di Savoia at Naples, after which she served as a training ship before transferring to Greece as Elli in the postwar reparations settlement.
