Why a battlefleet needs escorts

The Armageddon example makes the case for a fleet with escorts, scouts, and capital ships rather than capital ships alone.

Notes

The pre-war Armageddon force balances battleships, cruisers, and escort squadrons, with additional scouts. Smaller, less crew-intensive ships give the fleet screening capacity and other specialised options. They also compensate for the larger vessels' poor aft arcs, though that remains an avoidable design problem. Bastion fleets near Chaos-held space add further strength because threat, geography, and near-perpetual war should shape local force structure.
