A navy cannot concentrate only on prestige combatants when it must protect trade, support landings, and cover secondary theaters. The British Empire is the likeliest alliance to build escorts in large peacetime numbers because it must defend global sea lanes and expand Dominion naval capacity. Bathurst-class vessels, Hunts, and new Flower-class corvettes already have prewar roots, while memories of U-boats and mines make trade defense politically durable. British and Japanese design work can also produce landing-platform-dock-like ships without the historical wartime LST program. Continued exercises and regional commitments therefore create a broad usable fleet even without mass mobilization.

Second-line escorts, escort carriers, and purpose-built amphibious ships give major navies the numbers needed beyond their battle fleets.
