Question

What Italian battleship design answers the Austro-Hungarian Ersatz Monarch class?

Short answer

The Francesco Caracciolo class is identified as the response, arriving on Italy's own construction timetable.

Notes

The Francesco Caracciolo class is presented as Italy's answer to the Ersatz Monarch project. The comparison distinguishes a design response from an immediate matching construction date. Italy would proceed on its own timetable, so the reply cautions against expecting a simultaneous answer in the naval competition.
