Outnumbered defenders still need comparable weapons

A hopeless city defense prompts a distinction between outnumbered formations with comparable weapons and farmers facing armoured professional troops.

Notes

The hundred-man garrison is willing to fight, yet courage cannot compensate for its lack of combat equipment. The farmers carry improvised implements while the attacking troops have armour and purpose-built weapons. Second World War formations that fought while heavily outnumbered often had weapons comparable to those of their opponents. Numerical inferiority can sometimes be overcome, but bravery does not erase a severe equipment gap.
