Chapter · 29:42-32:08

Enterprise's deck torpedoes, 4-inch battery, and quad turrets

The close view of Enterprise explains why her torpedoes sit on deck, how five twin 4-inch mounts are arranged, and what accuracy penalty accompanies two quadruple turrets.

Notes

The design puts torpedoes aft on deck because a submerged torpedo room would consume a large volume inside the hull. Five twin 4-inch mounts provide a secondary battery, with their placement chosen to reduce interference and blast risk around the torpedo launchers. The accuracy penalty attached to quadruple turrets is the price of concentrating eight 16-inch guns into two mountings. Within the game, hull and tower stability almost cancel that penalty, separating the design compromise from the simulation's compensating statistics.
