A seven-hour turnaround after Pearl Harbor

Enterprise's crew cut a normal twenty-four-hour refuel and rearm cycle to seven hours before Task Force 8 returned to sea.

Notes

Enterprise entered Pearl Harbor on 8 December 1941, one day after the attack. William Halsey ordered every able-bodied crew member to help refuel and rearm the carrier. Work that normally took twenty-four hours finished in seven, and Task Force 8 sailed the next morning to guard against another attack. Enterprise's aircraft claimed the Japanese submarine I-70 on 10 December, while the task force patrolled west of Hawaii. The carrier then covered the islands as other American carriers attempted to relieve Wake. Turnaround labor and immediate readiness mattered during the first uncertain days of the Pacific War.
