Enterprise combined one twin 6-inch turret forward with five single mounts, while her sister Emerald retained seven singles. That made Enterprise the Royal Navy's first cruiser trial of a twin 6-inch turret rather than a fully turreted design. The cancelled Euphrates might have carried two twin turrets and turned an isolated experiment into an evolutionary family of turreted E-class cruisers. Without Euphrates or later E-named ships, the visible development line jumps abruptly from Enterprise to the Leanders.
