Enterprise was one of the first fourteen ships fitted with RCA CXAM-1 radar. That placed her near the beginning of the US Navy's adoption of operational shipboard radar. Her aircraft provided long-range scouting and striking power, while radar added an electronic means of detecting activity beyond visual range. Enterprise's famous air group shared the ship with sensor technology that was only beginning to enter fleet service.
