Enterprise's crowded stern framed the next design problem

The arrangement of three after 6-inch guns and a 4-inch weapon shows where a turreted E-class successor might have gained firepower.

Notes

Enterprise's after deck placed single 6-inch guns in stepped and wing positions around a high-angle 4-inch weapon. That crowded arrangement supports several plausible layouts for Euphrates or another successor. One option would replace the raised after 6-inch gun with a twin turret and move the 4-inch weapon lower, while another would reorganize the centerline position between the boats. The exercise shows that heavier turret armament depended as much on deck geometry and firing arcs as on the gun mounting itself.
