One British ship faces pursuit by the entire Spanish fleet. It opens the distance and runs toward the New World, where the main British naval strength is occupied. Theatre priorities and concentration of force matter more than accepting an unwinnable action for local honour. Preserving the isolated ship keeps it available for a later battle it can influence.
