Hood and light cruisers multiplied the Empire Cruise's presence

A battlecruiser flagship and independently visiting light cruisers gave the Empire Cruise a different diplomatic and commerce-warfare profile from the American battleship fleet.

Notes

Force composition made the Empire Cruise a different kind of demonstration from the American battleship mass. Britain sent battlecruisers led by HMS Hood with light cruisers, presenting a commerce-warfare capability that the United States lacked after converting Lexington and Saratoga into aircraft carriers. The cruisers could detach for additional port calls, spreading diplomatic contact beyond the capital ships' route. They acted as presence multipliers by extending the political reach of the main formation.
