An emergency British twelve-gun battleship

A rapid British replacement design combines twelve 15-inch guns with unusually heavy 4-inch and 6-inch secondary batteries for destroyer defence.

Notes

The proposed ship is deliberately oversized, with twelve 15-inch guns in six twin mountings and eighteen 4-inch guns in triple mounts. It also carries a heavy 6-inch battery because the scenario assumes German destroyers have shown that their torpedoes can sink British battleships. The main battery is meant to deter a surface opponent, while the secondary guns answer the close-range threat that created the emergency. The hull is large enough to make a later upgrade to 16-inch guns plausible. The German counterpart uses 16-inch guns on a design derived from the L 20e lineage. A later viewer comment warns that historical triple 4-inch mountings performed poorly and suggests single mounts instead, so this part of the design remains debatable.
