Deserter intelligence and an ammunition-dump raid before the Eleventh Isonzo

The defenders received warning of the Italian offensive but lost an ammunition dump that supported their artillery.

Notes

Italian deserters gave the Austro-Hungarians detailed information about preparations for the coming offensive. Their flight also reflected fear of another costly battle. Italian bombers increased their attacks on rear areas, and a raid on 11 August destroyed the main ammunition dump serving the plateau front. That loss weakened the artillery support available to the defenders in the weeks that followed.
