Chapter ยท 9:33-11:21

The Allied battleship force on 18 March

The 18 March order of battle shows a mixed fleet of dreadnought-era ships, new pre-dreadnoughts and older British and French battleships.

Notes

On 18 March, British line A comprised Queen Elizabeth, Agamemnon, Lord Nelson and Inflexible. The French line included Gaulois, Charlemagne, Bouvet and Suffren, while a further British line contained Vengeance, Irresistible, Albion and Ocean. Majestic, Prince George, Swiftsure and Triumph appeared as supporting ships, with Canopus and Cornwallis in reserve. Queen Elizabeth and Inflexible were the dreadnought-era ships in this comparison. Agamemnon and Lord Nelson were the Royal Navy's newest pre-dreadnoughts, completed after Dreadnought. The older British and French pre-dreadnoughts provide the basis for the proposed conversions.
