Effingham orders an attack on the grounded San Lorenzo

Effingham sends boats against the grounded galleass San Lorenzo, where a fierce boarding action kills Don Hugo de Moncada.

Notes

As the main bombardment waned, Effingham identified the grounded San Lorenzo as an opportunity and directed a boat attack. The vessel was a galleass, combining galley features with greater open-sea capability, and the boarding became a close, chaotic fight in which Don Hugo de Moncada was killed. Claims that an arquebusier deliberately picked out Moncada deserve caution because the vessels and early firearms made precise aimed fire difficult. The struggle also exposed the danger of relying on enslaved oarsmen, who had little reason to defend their captors once fighting reached them.
