Edward Cabalo had grown up on Guam during the Japanese occupation and worked to support his mother and younger siblings while his father was away. After joining the US Navy, he spent fourteen years away from the island and sent home money for his family's house and education. Beach arranged time after the reconnaissance exercise for Cabalo to look for the house through a periscope. Cabalo identified it from photographs and descriptions, although Triton remained too far offshore to establish whether the figures apparently nearby were members of his family. The visit gave him his first sight of a home he had helped finance without compromising the requirement to remain undetected.
