Ben-my-Chree moved to Port Said after the Dardanelles and became flagship of the East Indies and Egypt Seaplane Squadron in January 1916. Her aircraft and support facilities coordinated reconnaissance of Ottoman positions and movements in Sinai and Palestine for the General Officer Commanding Egypt. The work extended the carrier's earlier role as a mobile center for aviation and communications. A collision with SS Uganda on 11 February badly damaged her bow, and repairs at Suez kept her out of service from 13 March until 25 April.
