The fictional invasion has destroyed cities and damaged Earth's atmosphere when five allied battleships arrive with the surviving human ship Vengeance. The invaders recognize that the allies have gained access to advanced technology supplied by the humans and fear what that transfer means for their empire. Captain Dolan made the agreement under Captain Erickson's delegated authority and with his approval. The allies receive unrestricted access to the technology in exchange for building a fleet to protect Earth. General Mitchell accepts the bargain as necessary for survival, leaving discussion with the president and other world leaders for later. The arrival also brings news of a lost exploration ship and renewed regret over the loss of two colony ships and their escorts.
