E14's failed counterattack followed the Battle of Imbros

British submarines could not exploit Yavuz's mine damage: E12 was unavailable, while E14 failed to find the battlecruiser and was lost during its return.

Notes

Mine damage to Yavuz Sultan Selim offered the Royal Navy a chance to answer the monitor losses with a submarine attack. E12 was unavailable because of maintenance problems, so E14 entered the Dardanelles to hunt the damaged battlecruiser. E14 failed to locate Yavuz, although it did torpedo a merchant ship during the patrol. On the way out, the submarine was damaged, ran onto a sandbar, and was destroyed. Its commander received the Victoria Cross. E12's maintenance problems and E14's loss meant the Royal Navy could not exploit Yavuz's temporary vulnerability.
