Tordenskjold fought for his crews' rewards

After Dynekilen, Tordenskjold repeatedly presses Frederick IV to reward the sailors whose victory protected Norway from renewed Swedish momentum.

Notes

Tordenskjold spent the rest of his life arguing that his men deserved greater rewards for Dynekilen. He believed the crews had protected far more than a single fjord. Charles XII remained tactically dangerous and might have regained the campaign's momentum if the siege train had arrived, with Oslo or even Copenhagen potentially threatened. Tordenskjold's dispute with Frederick IV shows a commander challenging the crown's valuation of his sailors' service.
