How companies assembled ships from several Dutch admiralties

Company connections helped unite local admiralty squadrons and an independent privateering contingent for a common expedition.

Notes

Different Dutch towns maintained admiralties that arranged convoys and military operations. A company could draw together forces from several of them through its connections with merchants in those towns. The silver-fleet expedition therefore combined squadron leaders from different admiralty establishments. It also included a privateer commanding his own contingent, adding another source of authority within the fleet.
