Dunmoore's battle memories return at action stations

A fictional commander's return to action begins with grief and recurring battle memories that persist through months of quiet patrols.

Notes

In Honor and Death, the action-stations alarm wakes Commander Siobhan Dunmoore with memories of the near-destruction of Victoria Regina a year earlier. She still grieves for her captain and friend and for the crew members who were lost. The alarm recalls that battle particularly sharply while she is emerging from sleep. She takes deep breaths and regains full awareness of her quarters aboard the missile frigate Stingray. Months of uneventful patrols far from the war have not removed those memories.
