Duca d'Aosta adds protection without resolving the concept

Later Condottieri gained a meaningful belt and deck, but political naming, short range, and maintenance-sensitive weapons still reflected Italy's wider system.

Notes

The Duca d'Aosta group improved substantially over the earliest Condottieri, with a 70-millimeter belt, 35-millimeter deck, and heavier turret protection. Six-inch guns, torpedoes, and high speed gave useful offensive power, while Mediterranean range remained acceptable but limited. The class saw combat and both ships survived the war, though one later passed to the Soviet Union. Imported specialist lubricants show how even effective mountings depended on fragile wartime supply chains.
