Drones as reconnaissance and artillery enablers

Ukraine's drones chiefly compress the sensor-to-shooter cycle, letting observers find targets while artillery supplies scalable firepower.

Notes

Satellite links, commercial imagery, and international technical exchange help Ukraine exploit its wider information environment. Mobilizing a total-war economy has accelerated development, although returning such an economy to peacetime brings serious problems of its own. Small drones keep human observers under cover, locate targets, correct fire, and sometimes strike directly, but they do not abolish artillery. Because the technology remains immature, integrating different drones with infantry, artillery, and mobile formations matters as much as the airframes themselves. Both sides are adapting within a high-technology war of attrition in which information speed can offset disadvantages in mass.
