The Dreyfus affair as a possible wartime pressure point

French army divisions raise the possibility of political pressure, although an old proposal to free Dreyfus no longer fits his circumstances.

Notes

The Dreyfus affair could expose France to political pressure during a wider war. An earlier idea associated with Fisher involved freeing Alfred Dreyfus, but he had already been released in 1899. Political and military divisions over his false convictions nevertheless remained relevant to the scenario. His later reinstatement in the army was a separate step from his release. British attempts to exploit those divisions are a possible extension of the war whose success remains uncertain.
