Roger Keyes supervised Ironclad's original planning, and Louis Mountbatten later became involved at a high level. Drew did much of the detailed staff work needed to turn that direction into an executable landing plan. He then commanded the amphibious shipping during the assault, preserving continuity between planning and execution. That continuity mattered once the landing and covering forces began operating separately. Syfret could concentrate on naval cover and gunfire while Drew managed the specialized ship-to-shore problem he had helped plan.
