Very large Type 83 surface combatants remain a longer-term option, but a Dreadnought-derived SSGN is the more practical near-term carrier for a deep VLS battery. This proposal does not imply that every future naval mission should move underwater; the submarine is presented specifically as a warfighting tool. Railgun and laser technology must mature before the surface alternative offers the assumed capabilities. The procurement choice also belongs within conflict management, deterrence, and planning for the peace that follows combat.
