Dreadnought rams a submarine

HMS Dreadnought's ramming of a submarine reverses the familiar capital-ship vulnerability and supplies an unusual anti-submarine episode from the First World War.

Notes

HMS Dreadnought's submarine kill by ramming demonstrated that a battleship could defeat a submarine directly. The episode reverses the more familiar relationship in which submarines threaten capital ships. Navies still faced serious submarine problems across both world wars. One unusual success did not make battleships generally immune to the undersea threat.
