Dreadnought's real break was doctrinal

The ship's deepest significance was an admission that future fleet battles would not be close-range repetitions of Trafalgar.

Notes

The gun layout, armoured-cruiser hull lineage, turbine machinery, and fire-control developments were all assembled from existing strands. What changed more decisively was the operational assumption behind the combination. Building Dreadnought acknowledged that fleet actions would be fought at ranges where concentrated heavy fire, firing arcs, and power density mattered more than close broadside combat. The ship therefore marks a doctrinal line in the sand even though its individual technologies did not appear from nowhere.
