The British and Dutch orders of battle

Both squadrons formed seven-ship lines by placing lighter rated warships alongside their ships of the line.

Notes

The British core comprised Princess Amelia with 80 guns, Fortitude and Berwick with 74 each, Bienfaisant with 64, and Buffalo with 60. Parker added the 50-gun Preston and 44-gun Dolphin to make a seven-ship line. The Dutch line contained Admiraal Generaal with 74 guns, Admiraal de Ruyter and Holland with 68 each, Utrecht, Batavier, and Admiraal Piet Hein with 54 each, and the 40-gun Argo. Argo filled the same reinforcing role as Britain's lighter rated ships. This order of battle shows how both commanders stretched mixed squadrons into comparable fighting lines rather than relying only on purpose-built ships of the line.
